Being a parent and raising a child comes with endless moments of joy, fear, and of course challenges. But for many mothers and fathers in America, financial stressors can make raising their children a near impossible task. One in three families struggle to afford diapers while every 41 seconds a child is born into poverty in the U.S.

Thankfully, here are three baby charitable organizations dedicated to supporting mothers, fathers, and babies with many of the basic, yet unaddressed needs they are faced with everyday. They are making a difference and providing the foundation for a better future for these families.

Don’t forget that many of these nonprofit organizations rely heavily, if not entirely, on donations and volunteers. You’ll find links for each below, laying out all the ways you can give your time and donations.

Good+Foundation: Nonprofit Charitable Organization

Who they are:

Founded in 2001 by Jessica Seinfeld, Good+Foundation’s nonprofit organization's mission is “to dismantle multi-generational poverty by pairing tangible goods with innovative services for low-income fathers, mothers, and caregivers, creating an upward trajectory for the whole family.”

What they do:

Good+Foundation nonprofit organization has warehouses in New York City and Los Angeles and partners with 115 anti-poverty programs across the US. They work “to pair goods – such as cribs, car seats and diapers – with counseling, health services, employment assistance, financial literacy, co-parenting classes and more.”

With tools like these, parents can start off on the right foot. They have a better chance of providing their children with every opportunity to thrive.

Furthermore, over their first decade, Good+Foundation became aware of the lack of support and attention fathers receive when it came to improving child outcomes in our society, culture, and policy. The evidence shows that children in father-absent homes are four times more likely to be living in poverty than children in two-parent homes, yet current systems fail to properly engage dads.

Therefore, in 2010, Good+Foundation expanded its programming to include fathers.

“Our failure to help men become strong fathers today sets in motion a series of negative outcomes that will likely last decades. By better engaging fathers, we are giving moms – whose responsibilities and stress are endless – a co-parent. Investing in dads and giving them the opportunity to become part of the family helps children and builds stronger communities.” - Jessica Seinfeld, Founder

How you can help:

You can join Good+Foundation’s cause by giving back your time through volunteering, money, and goods. You can even purchase directly from their Amazon registry here. Items purchased off the registry will ship directly to their NYC warehouse for distribution to families in the five boroughs.

Who they are:

The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) is a nonprofit baby organization that works to fight diaper need and period poverty in America through advocacy, activism and product donations. This means clean, dry diapers for babies and period products for moms.

What they do:

With over 200 diaper banks nationwide, the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) ensures that children, families, and single parents have all the basic essentials needed for these families “to build strong foundations.” With the ground work in place, these families and children can grow, thrive and reach their full potential.

To take things even further, they are working with elected officials “to end diaper need and period poverty in the United States”, an issue that up until now, has received little to no attention in government policies and programs.

“National Diaper Bank Network brings attention to the small things that matter…the facts and the needs that are being overlooked…the basic necessities that are unmet.”

How you can help:

They invite you to use your voice and become a part of the movement by donating financially, becoming an advocatevolunteering at one of their many diaper banks in your area or raising awareness.

Who they are:

While not exclusively a baby charity and organization, founded in 2021 by Joe Masi and Uli Herzner, Believe Diapers is a socially responsible and eco-friendly diaper brand with a true one-for-one charitable model.

What they do:

Diaper need has a ripple effect on families that can impact health, employment, education and even social relationships. Having enough diapers gives parents and children alike the security they need to thrive and prosper.

Believe Diapers is changing the course of diaper need in America by donating one diaper to a U.S. family in need for every Believe Diaper purchased.

How you can help:

By purchasing your little one’s diapers through Believe, you are donating another Believe Diaper to a U.S. family in need for every one you buy. Furthermore, by helping to alleviate diaper need in the U.S. with their one-for-one matching program, you are helping to reduce the risk of postpartum depression.
