Defining Diaper Need
It’s no surprise that newborn diapers are a big factor in becoming a new parent, but did you know that 1 in 3 families in the U.S. experience diaper need? That means that 33 percent of parents and caregivers struggle to provide enough diapers for their growing infants. On average, babies go through 8-12 diapers a day, which can cost up to $100 each month just for an item that has to be thrown away every couple of hours. Diaper need statistics such as these are quite staggering for those that are not directly raising children, after all why would they know? That being said, having an understanding of this diaper crisis is important for all those interested in helping out with new parents or how they might contribute in the way of diaper donations to their nearest diaper bank. Diaper changing happens a lot more than people tend to think and the cost adds up quickly. It takes approximately 1.5 hours at the federal minimum wage just to purchase one pack of diapers. Understanding what the best diaper is for your child can go a long way to say the least.
There are additional economic considerations. Most daycare facilities require parents to bring a day’s worth of disposable diapers each time they require child care. A lack of access to diapers can inhibit a parent’s ability to work, which can prevent them from meeting other basic needs as well. Diaper costs are so integral to new parents as they can be one of the highest costs to consider when budgeting for their newborns needs. Additionally, government assistance programs, such as food stamps and WIC, can’t be used to purchase diapers.
How We’re Helping with Kids Diaper Needs

But, we’re doubling down for National Diaper Need Awareness Week and doubling our donation. This week, for every Believe Diaper sold, we will donate two to Good+Foundation, with a minimum commitment of 200,000 diapers. We’ll be able to support over 6,500 additional families this week alone.
